Ken asks…

Why do straight men go to the gym to try and attract women?

So, why are there so many adverts claiming that men can attract any woman? Low-intelligence men that no sane employer would ever hire, but who know that sex sells, reason:

” I like women that have spent time in the Gym and who use make-up – therefore, women must also like men that have spent time in the Gym and who use make-up.”

Thus, through their faulty logic , these straight men surmise that by exercising and acheiving an amazing good looking bodybody, wearing cosmetics and spending a lot of money on clothes – they will have women falling at their feet – in reality only gay men will be falling at their feet.

Most men try and get great looking & great bodies hoping to attract women. Well, I’m afraid it’s bad news, you can’t attract any woman, neither can I, and anyone man who claims to be able to is a liar!

Since it’s only women who can attract men – simply by dressing in revealing clothing and looking pretty. But, this passive approach doesn’t work for men – who need to be more active, and to manipulate the woman of their desire into choosing them as a sexual partner, via various seductive methods.

WOMEN ARE NOT SEXUALLY STIMULATED BY LOOKING AT THE MALE BODY

To be sexually aroused by the sight of males would promote random intercourse, therefore undermining all of these aims, and also wasting time and energy that might be spent nurturing children, or in economically significant activities. Thus, a female’s reproductive success would be seriously compromised by a tendency to be sexually aroused by the sight of males.

So why do men still go to the gym to get the “body of their dreams” etc and attract women when women are not even turned on by the male body but are turned on by themselves being the center of erotic admiration & sexual need?: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/471483/results

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Now just because women aren’t attracted to you doesn’t mean its like that for everyone. Maybe you are doing something wrong. You sound bitter. Bitter people don’t get very far or they tend to end up unhappy. It shows in your personality and it creates negativity around you. You’ll only attract other negative people and be miserable. Don’t give up.

Mary asks…

Would women ever see going topless as becoming a popular fashion trend?

In Ontario, Canada, a ruling was passed in 1996 that made it legal for women to walk around topless in public. Yet since that time, very few there have chosen to exercise this right.

One woman who did so this past summer wrote on her blog about the negative responses she received, particularly from other women:

http://community.feministing.com/2008/09/topless-in-toronto-how-my-brea.html

In her blog, she chalks it up to “internalized imperialism” where women are conditioned to act in favor of female oppression. In this case, she argues that they feel only beautiful women should be allowed to be topless, and then only for the enjoyment of men.

On the other hand, some women argue that they would feel uncomfortable being topless in public or seeing others who are (regardless of how attractive they or anyone else may be), that the choice to remain covered up is due to a sense of modesty, self-esteem and self-respect.

My question is, from a beauty and fashion standpoint do you think women in general are brainwashed by society into believing that appearing topless in public is akin to doing something obscene or inappropriate? Or do many women truly believe in a “show less/leave more to the imagination” type attitude when it comes to clothing?

It’s clear many cultures around the world view topless feminine beauty as something to be celebrated. Yet in western culture, it’s considered erotic, suggestive…or at worst, sleazy.

There even seems to be outrage when a female appears in public wearing something like pasties (adhesive coverings applied to cover a woman’s nipples) as seen in the case of singer Janet Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” a few years ago.

Sarit: My apologies, as this question is not intended to be offensive. I’m sorry if you were.

What’s interesting is that I posted something similar one on the Gender & Women‘s Studies, and the responses there tended to be the exact opposite of the ones here.

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

I guess it could…and i really don’t see why guys can walk around topless and no one makes a big deal out of it and whenever a girl does it just automatically makes her a slut, i mean why? Is it because they’re bigger? I’ve seen guys with bigger breast than me and no one told them to cover up…i guess it’s just been engraved in most woman’s brains that they’re supposed to cover their breasts…

And i don’t do it now obviously (i don’t want perverted and immature idiots looking at me) but i can definitely see myself going topless at the beach, or maybe in even in the streets in the future

Paul asks…

I want to get in to the clothing business is that a good idea ?

I am not a full figure woman but I have big breast and I have a condition that my belly his big no matter what exercise I do, I want to make a line a clothes that will be for people like me that will be nice elegant and comfortable. Also I make little girls clothes, and teen clothes hair bows, blankets etc. and everybody makes very good comments about it. How is the clothing business will I succeed or it will be a waist of time and money. What is your opinion.

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

NO,

the competition in clothing retail IS FIERCE, I would not recommend starting a retail store these days, unless you are in an area that does not have a wal-mart and there are ppl who have money

Chris asks…

Exercise routine to see results?

Does anyone have a diet/exercise routine that’s given them KILLER results? I’ve been working out consistently for about 4 months and I do see some good results, but I still don’t seem to be losing the love handles. Over the past 2 weeks I’ve started jogging about 2-4 miles on the treadmill. Will this eventually help?? My diet is pretty good, but I know it could be better. Any helpful tips are appreciated. Also do supplements really help? If you know of any good ones for women that’d be helpful too…And I’m hoping the extra weight I’ve gained recently is muscle and not FAT! My clothes fit better so I’m hoping that’s the case.

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

If you want to lose a lot of fat you should do timed intervals to do so. What I do is run on the track or elliptical for 10-40 minutes (depending on how much time/dedication you have), and I run for 30 secs REALLY HARD. And you need to do it to the point where it starts to become difficult for the best results. But then after those 30 secs you jog lightly where it is actually EASY. And just do this for the whole 10-40 minutes. By doing intervals like these your metabolism adjusts to not working very hard during those 30secs but then it has to jump start when you start your 30secs of going fast.
And once you start getting used to these intervals you should change the time of your intervals. You should do this by going 20secs relaxed and 40secs fast. Then once again, when you start to get used to that interval set you will once again change the time of intervals by going 10secs relaxed and 50secs fast.
I hoped this helped(: it helped me about when I struggling to lose weight!

Ruth asks…

Why can a woman’s breasts be rounder in appearance for a while, but then for other periods of time be pointier?

I know people generally say their breasts look one or the other…at least I think so… Is this related to food or diet? I don’t really exercise much so don’t think in this case that’s it. Clothing related in any way (and not just bras or lack of)? Thanks :)

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Just during anormal time of the day, my boobs are slightly pointy looking, if I’m not wearing a bra. If I get cold or aroused, then they get rounder, perkier, and my nipples get hard. Stimilation from your clothing rubbing against your chest, the weather, things like that could have an effect. I don’t really know…..

    Your Questions About Hot Yoga

    Linda asks…

Any way to prevent or to ease menstrual/priod pain?

    Exercise? Yoga? Hot drinks? Chocolate?
What’s the most effective way to prevent or to ease the pain?

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Take a clean old sock or make yourself a fabric bag and fill it with rice (not the instant kind), you can add some dried herbs (for smell – I like to throw in a mint tea bag). Sew up the open end of the bag and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Use it as a moist heat pack over crampy areas. It will hold heat for a long time. (Do not place directly against your skin straight from the microwave!!) You can reuse it over and over. Works great on other aches and pains too. Back of the neck for headaches, face for sinus pressure, strained muscles etc.

Also: a good hot soak in the bath, stretching and definately CHOCOLATE!! ;) My friend swears by a stiff drink and sex – to each her own!!! LOL!

    We hope you feel better!!!

Why does my dog roll around on my wet towel?

Whenever I get out of the shower and I’m done with my towel my dog sniffs it then rolls around on it. He rubs his head into it and just rolls back and forth. I also went to hot yoga and sweat all over my towel, he went into the dirty laundry bin and pulled out my towel and did the same thing! Why is he rubbing all over my towels??

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Maybe he really likes the smell. Just like dogs like to smell butts. Or he likes the fell of it. But I would say my first answer is better than my other one.

Is lunch directly after yoga is harmful?

    Hi
Few days before I faced with the problem of Prostatitis. So doctor suggested me to have a hot bath and excercise regularly.I am following the doctors suggestion and I do 1 hour yoga daily and running in the evening after coming from the office.
I have a doubt in my mind that, I do yoga in the afternoon in my lunch break and suddenly after finishhing yoga I go for lunch. Is there any problem if I go directly to the lunch after yoga?

Today I did a physical fitness analysis in that I found that I have protein and mineral deficiancy so how can I increase the protein and mineral level in my body? Please suggest about the protein and mineral rich diets.

    Thanks in advance.

      Your Questions About Workout Clothes

      Donald asks…

I NEVER dress up!! I ALWAYS wear workout clothes! How can i make myself dress better?

I HATE dressing up because i love being comfortable and just wearing sweatpants or those soffee shorts and a sports T or something. I have no motivation to dress up unless i go clubbing or something-is this normal?
      PS im a college student
skinny jeans are a no-no! how are those comfortable? stilleto heels are more comfortable than skinny jeans!

      Yoga Wear Guru answers:

That’s pretty normal if you’re in college. I do the same thing sometimes when I have no motivation so I’m totally with you on that one. But I think once in a while you should spice up your outfit a little. You don’t have to wear really fancy clothes to look nice; Forever 21 is a great store to look at if you want to be comfortable but also look chic. I have a bunch of really nice looking shirts, tunics, etc. From there that are made from really comfortable, simple fabric, but that still look nice. Plus, it’s super cheap and they always have stuff on sale. If you just wear a long shirt/tunic with leggings and Uggs or other similar boots, i’m sure you’d be comfortable but also look great. Instead of a sweatshirt, look for a jacket made from sweatshirt material or a fancier looking zip-up sweatshirt, or even a comfortable cardigan.

Air Force Basic Training 3 pairs of Civilian Clothes, Jeans or workout running pants?

For Air Force Basic Training they said to bring 3 pairs of Civilian Clothes. Should I bring Jeans or workout pants to run in?

      Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Jeans. You’ll be issued PT clothes to run in.

You’ll want those civvies for when you’re granted liberty. You don’t want to be the only guy who wears his dress blues off base while everyone else is in comfortable clothes and sneakers.

      @ Rawbert

The Air Force issues running shoes. So does the Army now (active duty only–reserve or guard personnel had to bring their own).

      Chris asks…

How many sets of Workout Clothes do you use in a Week?

      Yoga Wear Guru answers:

One set per workout. The sweat causes bacteria to proliferate and makes them smelly. The smell isn’t the problem but the bacteria is.

Your Questions About Wear Sports Bra To Bed

        Lizzie asks…

*FEMALES ONLY-BRA ISSUE* Can you wear a bra to bed?

If you wore a bra to bed, would it affect your breast’s growing habits if you still developing? I’m 12 and I wear a sports bra. I have since I was 10. I was too scared to ask my mom for a new bra when the ones I had were getting tight, so I just stretched them and adjusted the straps so it fits. Eventually, I got a new one, but I heard it will help your development if you wear a sports bra or ANy bra while you sleep. Is it true?

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

I don’t think it will help your development at your age. I think the rumor you’re referring to is that women who are getting older can prevent their breasts from sagging if they wear a bra to sleep — that rumor may or may not be true, but either way it doesn’t apply.
Why are you too scared to ask your mom for new ones? It’s perfectly normal and healthy for them to grow, and you can look forward to them continuing to grow in the next few years.

        Mark asks…

Does wearing a bra in bed cause cancer?

        and/or misshapen breasts?

I’m asking because I am thirteen and wear bra‘s to bed and have done for about a year. But I read it can misshape your breast and cause breastcancer so I am now going to wear sports bra‘s with no cup just like a cotton one will that be better and will that cause cancer or misshapen breasts?

        Thanks.

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Cancer is formed by mutated cells that have changed because of exposure to toxins inside your body and from radiation. Since bras arent toxic or radioactive, there isnt any way that bras can cause cancer. The only reason not to wear a bra to bed, is if you wear the same bra during the day and then you sleep in it. If you do wear an unclean bra to sleep in, then the dirt and sweat can cause rashes and acne and can even cause infection if not kept in check. But if you wear a clean bra to bed, and its comfortable for you, then there is absolutely no problem wearing one.

        Helen asks…

Is it okay to sleep with a sports bra on at night?

I personally normally do, but I wear a sports bra in bed, not a wired one, that’s too uncomfortable.

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Why sure…just make sure you wear a different one during the day, even if it is another different sports bra….or you may get a build-up of yeast from sweat…and that could create a yeast or staph infection.

        Linda asks…

is it ok to wear a sports bra at night?

i heard wearing a bra to bed can increase your chance of breast cancer? and it will make your boobs sag? is this true? :/

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

        Actually the opposite.

        Robert asks…

What do big busted gals wear to bed when you have guests over? I don’t want to wear a regular bra, but I’m too?

big to go flapping in the breeze too. I wore a light sports bra last night. And, although comfortable, it wasn’t much different than going naked as far as the sag factor is concerned.

I’m a 32DD, what other options are there? A more supportive sports bra?

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Well…I have the exact opposite of your problem, but my friends are sort of dealing with what you are dealing with. I would double up the sports bras, like wear two, just when guests were over though. Or if that doesn’t work for you, I agree, I would just get a more supportive sports bra, or a less supportive regular bra.

          Your Questions About Pilates Wear

          Thomas asks…

          Is 95 pounds underweight?

I am a 5’2 high school senior and 95 pounds (though I tend to fluctuate between 94-96). I wear 0s or maybe 00s, not really sure but I just bought a pair of XXS pants today. My friends keep telling me that this is underweight, but the thing is I have very small bones and a small frame to begin with, and a surprisingly very curvy figure. I know that this might be hard to believe given how small I am, but I tend to be long in the upper body, meaning my waist is significantally smaller than the rest of my body, creating curves despite my small bra size (I also have a bubble booty). I like the way I look, but is this too skinny? I used to be like 107 but then started ballet and doing Pilates and it just came flying off

          Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Your BMI would be at 17.4, 18-25 is considered healthy weight and 22 has been proven the least prone to disease … But as long as you feel fine and like the way you look it may just be the way your body naturally is, embrace it. If anything I’d try to get up to at least 18 BMI wise though, to keep on the safe side

          Donald asks…

How to lose, like lots of stomach fat by Valentines Day?

So, at Garage today, I bought this ADORABLE top… it’s a thick sweater type long sleeved shirt, it’s light blue colored with light pink and purple flowers… so, the thing is, it’s such a nice shirt, totally my style… but ummmm… it doesn’t exactly fit. Okay, it does fit. But, I mean, I am a little large in the middle compared to everywhere else, and that’s why I like to wear stuff like a solid colored tank top with a cardigan, because it doesn’t bring much attention. But this shirt is kind of… gawdy I guess, and it does draw lots of attention, and I only bought it cause it was soooo adorable, and it was on sale for about 10 dollars and about to go out of stock. Anyways. I’ve also been trying to lose weight, and now I have a good reason. Of course, I won’t lose enough weight to look good in the shirt right away, but it would be the perfect shirt for Valentines day. So, my workout plan was to do cardio 5 hours a week, (so like, one hour a day, minus two days) and on the two days where I don’t do cardio I’d do a pilates video targeting the abs. And once I see some slight results, I’ll start some situps and side bends, cause I know you’re supposed to wait to burn the top layer of fat. And also, I’ll eat healthier, not eat as much snacks… Does this sound all well? I’d really like to shape up by Valentines day… xx

You’re right. That store IS unorganized. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend shopping there at ALL. They have a no-returns policy and their clothes are CHEAP – I’ve bought clothing from them – it doesn’t last long without something ripping or breaking off. And the sales people are NOT sympathetic to customers with defective merchandise. I’m sure that everyone who has shopped there has bought at least ONE defective item. Their store is terrible. H&M has better quality with the same styles – even better.

              Helen asks…

Does joining the gym really pay off?

The closest gym around is 15-20 minutes from my house. I have a home gym but I don’t have motivation right now to workout on my own. I figured going to a gym for a couple of months would get me back in the swing of things, but they are about 50 bucks a month and require a commitment and also charge a one time fee to set you up. Should I just go ahead and join a gym or should I just get my butt in gear at home? I have a very hectic work schedule (I am a police officer on rotating shifts). Also, does anyone have any suggestions on a workout plan? I already eat healthy, I just want to tone up. Also, I am a female.

YES it pays off… For the gym. Fewer than 1 in 4 people who purchase a gym membership will be using it 3 months later. If having a trainer will keep you motivated, the gym can help but it’s usually at an added cost. If your having trouble staying motivated to work out at home, I predict it will be even harder to make the 15 minute trip each way.

Exercises to blast the belly fat?

I exercise and drink plently of water. I do cardio workout once a month (in the form of step ups). However, because I used to be very overweight, I still have a lot of belly fat.

I need exercises that will really launch the belly into gear and make it work like a machine in order to lose it.

So is there any such exercises like that? =)

              Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Monthly Cardio isn’t going to do much, but it’s better then nothing. If your happy with your current diet, and have access to a elliptical or treadmill, then that’s where I would recommend you begin. Body fat reduction is a combination of diet, and total body workouts.

If you are over weight already, intensive cardio is very difficult to manage for any period of time. Your heart rate can be dangerously high, and hard to breath. Something im sure you know already. Cardio is something you should work up too, not jump in directly.

Will Nintendo be releasing more games for the Wii Fit? I’d like to see Yoga and Step have it’s own CD.?

I love my Wii Fit. However, I’d like to see more Wii Fit games come out specifically geared towards one workout. Such as a Yoga disc, an Aerobic or “step aerobic” disc, etc. Anyone know if these are in the works?

              Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Wii Yoga is coming in 2009, and the biggest loser trainer has a game called “Fitness Ultimatum 2009″ coming out in October of this year. (Which is still 2008. Weird.) There are other games that use the balance board coming out, but they aren’t exercise games.

The link below lists all known balance board games that are out or planned.

Why is riding a bike so hard?

I bought a bike as a new way to get a fun outdoor workout as I’m tired of the treadmill and elliptical. I find it very hard to ride, like I’m out of shape and can only last about 10 minutes before I feel like my lungs are about to explode. Why could this be? I have tried changing the gears, but no luck.
I’ve just started, only tried 2 times.
              I’m not over weight, thanks

              Yoga Wear Guru answers:

If you can run the treadmill and elliptical machine just fine, you should have no difficulties with a bicycle as it’s primarily a cardiovascular exercise. Your fitness should transfer over just fine.
If you’re having a hard time starting out, my guess is that you are just not pacing yourself right. It’s easy to get over eager and ride really fast without meaning too. Just like running, if you feel yourself getting tired too early on, then just slow down. Shift to an easier gear (smaller gear in the front, bigger gear in the back), and then make sure that you turn the pedals quickly. This means you’ll use less of your muscles in an all-out effort and be able to sustain it easier.
I’d also avoid hilly areas as well, as that most definitely will be more taxing than you’d like.
Try riding with a friend! That way you’ll be less likely to go at too fast of a pace. If you are riding too hard to where you can no longer carry on a conversation, you are pushing yourself too hard.
Keep up with it though, you’ll get better. Cycling is only as hard as you make it.
