Questions About Yoga Clothing Labels

Maria asks…

What’s up with kids leaving price tags and manufacturers labels on clothing items?

Why do they walk around with price tags on their hats an close? Is this a fashion statement?

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Yeah, they try to be cool but it’s look half retarded.
No one gives two shits about where you get your jeans.

Lisa asks…

how much do clothing labels pay fashion magazines to run ads?

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Call or email the fashion magazine

Ken asks…

Where is a good, reputable online store to order custom woven clothing labels?

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Etsy.com is a great resource for sellers/artisians.

Customcouturelabelco on etsy is an awesome reputable seller & her labels are amazing!

Donald asks…

Where can I get custom or semi-custom woven clothing labels?

Preferably in the US and with a low order minimum (100, 250) and a fast turn around, anyone know of a good company?

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

You could try browsing in needlecraft magazines, knitting/yarn shops and fabric stores.

Also try Herrschners and Annie’s Attic.

These are where I’ve either gotten mine or got the form to order.

Thomas asks…

What are hot new stylish clothing labels for this fall?

Yoga Wear Guru answers:

Don’t shop where everyone else shops!! Especially, don’t wear those shirts with brandy names across the front or you’ll look like a clone (i.e. Aberclone)

    Your Questions About Yoga Clothing Patterns

    Sharon asks…

    what can I use to make patterns for clothing?

    I have a dress form and on project runway I see them using this tape stuff…is it electrical tape, because that is really stick and would probably mess up my dress form. (it’s a singer if that matters)

    I work at a fabric store and we don’t sell pattern paper. neither does the craft stores next to my work. lol a fabric store then a craft store then a fabric AND craft store all in a row

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

    It’s not electrical tape… It’s a skinny version of masking tape.

    For drafting, I prefer alphanumeric paper, aka dot and cross paper, aka pattern paper. If you’ve got a gridded cutting mat you can put a semi-translucent paper over it (I’ve used newsprint many times) and draft that way. And I’ve made a fair number of patterns out of sheets of newspaper taped together when that’s all that was available.

    Some of the larger independent fabric stores sell short cuts of alphanumeric paper… Say 5-10 yards… For not a whole lot of money, but shipping can be pretty bad on it. Or you can order an entire roll from a place like South Star Supply, and have a lifetime supply.

    Chris asks…

    I need a pattern for infant legwarmers- anyone have any infant clothing or legwarmer patterns they can email?

    hey ! I am looking for patterns (either online or by email) that are FREE for infant clothing like LEGWARMERS, kimono style baby shirts, onesies, etc. IF you have anything or know of anything, please let me know!!

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

    I know a few people who take adult knee socks and cut the feet out of them and sew in and elastic cuff to make homemade baby leg warmers.

    Lisa asks…

    Where can I get free dog clothing patterns?

    any good web sites?

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

    Try www.freepatterns.com

    Jenny asks…

    Dresses or other clothing with patterns? Stores?

    I live in Chicago and I am looking to buy clothes that have patterns on them. I want to know what stores would have dresses, rompers, shorts, etc. with cool patterns on them. Patterns like zig zags, grafitti writing, weird prints, etc. Also, that are affordable.

    Steven asks…

    Why are the sizes on sewing patterns so much larger than normal clothing?

    I was looking at a dress pattern I am going to make and thought I would be a size 4 like I am in regular clothes I get at a store, but the sizes of the bust waist and hips on the pattern lead me to a size 10, and even a size 12 on a different pattern. I don’t understand the difference. Can anyone explain? Also, do I make the size “10″ because my body measurements co inside with that or do I make a size 4?

    Yoga Wear Guru answers:

    Make the size that goes with your body measurements. Pattern sizes come from a completely different universe than store bought clothing sizes and the size ranges bear absolutely no resemblance to each other. And they are not based on “vintage” sizes. In vintage 1950′s sizes you would be a size 16 -and it would still be too small in the waist for you -1950′s patterns assume that you are wearing a very tight girdle. In reality sewing pattern sizes are “true to size” while many store clothes are vanity sized. Don’t be upset by pattern sizes, no one will know what size you have made and you don’t have to tell them. So make the size that is closest to your actual body measurements so you get the best possible fit for your body.

    I’ve been answering this question quite a bit over the past year or so as more teens and younger woman start sewing and my advice to you and all my sewing students is the same: Don’t get hung up or upset by size numbers. They mean NOTHING. Zilch. Zero. They are arbitrary symbols assigned to a set of body measurements and used to help you make clothes that fit YOU. If I could replace numbers with Iscandorian Petroglyphs from the Andromeda Galaxy then I would. Your size isn’t a judgement on your character or personality, it does not confer special status on you if you take a single digit size rather than a two digit size. And taking a two digit size in patterns does not make you large, fat, less cute or whatever…it just means you take a size ten in sewing patterns. Back in 1986 you would be buying clothes in a size 10 or a size medium and thinking nothing of it. A size 0 today is the equivalent of a size 6 back when sizes were standardized and a size 10 in the fifties. So shop according to your measurements, and don’t even try to compare them to stores sizes, and make things that fit you, not a number.

        Where can I buy bulk of top clothing brands in wholesale?

        I want to invest money in top clothing brands such as guess, polo, banana republic, aeropostale, holister, express, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, armani, Lacoste, Calvin Klein, abercrombie & fitch, true religion, American Eagle, DKNY, Gucci. Please I need answers that are going to lead me to the right direction. Thank you!

        Yoga Wear Guru answers:

        Some really high end designer brands have very tight distribution channels and seldom releases their products wholesale. The only to get Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada would be from their authorized reatailers or you may apply to become one yourself from their company. Another legitimate way to source them would be through liquidators. To understand how liquidation works, please have a read at the source provided below. :)

          Your Questions About Yoga Workout Wear

          Chris asks…

          What do you think about wearing “non convention/normal” clothes in public? (exercise pants?)?

          I’m not showing yet but my pants are digging in a little big, especially since my pants are only a few inches below my belly button, they aren’t low rise. I was thinking about wearing my gym clothes to school, but I am the type of person who wears normal clothes when I go out! I have like workout/yoga capris that have a very comfy non elastic waistline. Do you think it is innappropriate? I don’t TD for honest answers, I don’t think it is appropriate to wear pjs in public. Especially since I’m not really showing yet. I feel like i”ll just look like a bum.

          Yoga Wear Guru answers:

          Personally I think the women I see in the grocery stores wearing pajamas look…well kinda trashy to be honest. It’s one thing if you are sick buying medicine at walgreens but to wear pjs in public just isn’t my thing…

          Have you considered buying a bella band? I got mine at Target for about $15. It helps cover your jeans so you can leave them unbuttoned while you are in the “in between” stage.
          Another option is Old Navy maternity jeans. They offer a real waist style that has a normal looking waist that stretches-they are so cute and extremely comfy! You can pair yoga pants with maybe a polo style shirt and cardigan too. I would just avoid the plaid pj bottoms or anything that has writing across the bum in public lol.

          Good workout regimen? – 5ft ~105 lbs?

          I want to start going to the gym on a regular basis and tone up. On any given day I way somewhere between 104 and 110 lbs. I wear a size 2 and am not really looking to lose 10 pounds, I just want to tone up and feel comfortable in my size 25 pants without feeling like I have a muffin top. I want to do something like jog or run on a treadmill and then do weights (weights every other day?). I’m not sure what intensity I should run to burn off the extra fat and what machines/ number of reps to do to build some muscle definition. I also do yoga to try and keep my muscles leaner instead of bulky. Also – I used to play soccer and have huge calves because of it – any exercises on making them a little leaner?
          - I am also 16 years old – so It’s difficult for me to burn off calories. A year ago I weighed around 125. now I’m about 105. I need a good regimen to get those last ~5 lbs off and tone up!

          Yoga Wear Guru answers:

          In order to burn off that muffin top fat, you will have to do lots of cardio. It’s so much easier to put on a pound of fat than it is to take off. Do some cardio (at least 20-40 minutes) 4/5 times a week. Your goal is to hit about 70%/80% max heart rate. Most treadmills/ellipticals have calculators built in. To burn fat, you will have to SWEAT. Also if you want to keep your metabolism up and the calories burning when not working out, weight training is important. Lean up. Do about 2 major muscle groups alternating every other day. Shoot for about 12-15 reps 3 sets each. Choose weight accordingly. Take a day of rest once a week. During the rest day you muscles get to recoup and a lot of good stuff happens. 1 day of rest is much more beneficial then working everything out every day. Stretching is very very crucial to keeping those muscles long and lean. Maybe do some yoga and pilates twice a week. Eat a healthy balanced diet and you should be fine. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you need any more help. :)

          Linda asks…

          What kind of tight, sexy workout/dance material (specifically for pants) will best hide excessive sweating?

          I have been more and more active, especially in Zumba. I only want to rock those “yoga/dance” pants while working out and sweating hard. What I DON’T want is for the sweat to show through in icky, random places (say….my butt/bikini line/chest, etc while teaching a class? EW???) I want to look good – isn’t that part of why we go the gym in the first place, after all? =] I know it sounds picky & shallow, but I DO notice it on others & go “eek” FOR them, so I don’t want it for myself, either! (That being said, don’t bother with the “Sweating is natural – no one will care, blahblah” advice) So, is this material Spandex….Lycra….a blend? The stuff I’m thinking of is kinda thick & very stretchy. It’s almost like you could wear pink or grey & any moisture STILL hardly shows. Even when I wear black cotton, certain lighting makes it visible regardless. I have seen it ~ so I KNOW it exists =]
          ~~~HELP! No more hiding my hard-earned booty with a tied-on hoodie!~~~
          Yoga Wear Guru answers:
          Cotton is a big no-no for sweaty activities. It shows up sweat stains badly.
          I would consider some tights in a Lycra/Spandex blend that is designed to wick away moisture from the body. They will rarely ever show sweat stains and if you already have a rockin body, you will look fantastic in them. Of course lighter colors are more prone to being noticed in. I would recommend darker colors but in all seriousness, good quality lycra blend tights will hide sweat marks and will keep you the coolest.
          Consider brands like Under Armor, Skins, 2XU and other high quality brands when you make your selection as they will have put high amounts of time and development in giving a superior product.
          No I am not a reseller or work for these companies. But I do have a fair amount of these garments and swear by them personally.
          Ken asks…
          I need some advice from a female about why I like to dress up like a female and honest opinions on how I look?
          Hello, I am a 37 yr old male, that has been wearing women’s clothing, dressing up behind closed doors, since I was about 13 yrs old. I even shave my body like a female and wear womens victoria’s secret panties under my normal clothes in public.I even workout like a girl at the gym, I am the only guy in the classes alot of the time during yoga, pilates, and aerobics and I wear womens workout clothes under mine. What are your thoughts and opinions? Please be honest, you can see my photos on my flickr site at www.flickr.com/photos/firefly711, you may have to manually type it in your web browser exactly as I have it listed here. I would like to know if I look passible and your opinion of why I like to do this, all thoughts are appreciated, Thank you
          Yoga Wear Guru answers:
          I’m not a female, I am a cross-dresser & I just want to say that I think you look great dressed up like a female, I wish I looked as good as you do. I checked out your photos & added you as a friend on Flickr, but honestly, you are a beautiful woman & I’d even let you dress me up as a girl if I could look just like you.
            Your Questions About Yoga Workout Wear
            Mark asks…
            I am getting a tattoo on my foot tomorrow…?
            I usually run about 4 days a week and do aerobics/yoga/light weightlifting. How long until i can wear shoes again and resume my usual workout routine?
            Yoga Wear Guru answers:
            At least 2 weeks. You want the tat to be TOTALLY healed, no scabbing, no soreness. I would still put a barrier cream (neosporin, whatever the tattoo artist recommends) on your tattoo underneath the sock for the first month after getting inked.
            The skin cells on your feet are sloughed away more than on other locations on the body, so be prepared for a foot tattoo to fade sooner than one on another part of your body.
            Nancy asks…
            Are the Adidas Chen Tao shoes comfortable/supportive enough for aerobics?
            Has anyone worn the Adidas chen Tao model of sneakers? How well do they fit? Can they be used in an active workout or just for yoga?
            Yoga Wear Guru answers:
            They are the most comfortable shoes in the world…I didn’t know yoga classes alowed shoes. I think that for hardcore aerobics…they aren’t good because of the thin soles. But if its like a begginers aerobics class where there isn’t a lot of stepping involved they are good!
            Carol asks…
            I think I pulled my calf muscle while doing yoga, how long will it take to heal?
            I do kickboxing to stay fit, but I wasn’t stretching out my legs enough after workout. Suffice it to say, I started developing a heel spur in my left foot. I went to a podiatrist who said I needed to start stretching out my calves after working out, and that stretching would eventually reverse the heel spur and increase my flexibility. She gave me a few calf stretch exercises to do, one of which was the downward dog pose done in yoga.
            To make a long story short, I held the pose so long I overstretched my left calf muscle. I don’t know what I was thinking, as if one stretch would fix the problem like magic overnight. I know better now that a little light stretching everyday would have fixed the problem over the course of a few weeks, but now I can’t even workout. It hurts to kick, and it hurts to stand flat on my feet, I have to a wear a shoe with little heel on it to wear around the house, flip flops hurt. I tried stretching the muscle gently to help rehab it, but that hurt too, and made the pain worse, so I’m kind of lost on what to do. Other than putting ice on it, what can I do to make it heal faster? It’s been two weeks already, it’s improving a little every day, but I still don’t feel like I’m healed enough to resume kickboxing. Has anyone else had this problem? How long will this calf muscle take to heal?
            Note: I don’t see outside bruising or swelling so I don’t think it is a complete tear, but I felt a pulling and snapping back sensation when I originally pulled it doing the downward dog, kind of like a rubber band pulling and snapping back together. The pain is right where the muscle meets behind my knee and in the biggest part of the calf itself.
            Yoga Wear Guru answers:
            It shouldn’t take long at all if you do calf stretches at least twice a day.
            Stretch before&after yoga classes for a faster recovery!!
            Also a leg massager helps relax muscle tension.
            Icy hot anything will do great, even while doing your yoga classes.
            Get some pre-wrap & tape. Tape it really good, also good for during classes.
            Hot baths.. Point-flex-point-flex.
            Hope that helps!!
I was thinking of running 3x a week for 30 min. along with some basic strength training (no weights just some very basic stuff such as push ups, crunches, squats etc…) and along with that…stuff 2-3x weekly either bike riding, walking or yoga.
              Does this seem like enough?
              Weekly Workout Plan:
              -3x running/jogging for 30min
              -5x strength training (abs, arms, legs…etc.)
              -3x (ethier biking, walking, or yoga) for 1hr
              I’m a teenager so please don’t suggest stuff like going to the gym or buying a ton of extra equipment that I can’t afford.
              Yeah just make sure your eating your protein after your strength workouts like with eggs or peanutbutter or nuts, you need protien after that, and on days you do cardio, make sure you eat fruit afterward and drink ALOT of water, i mean drink alot of water everyday but expically on days your sweating it all off. O yeah make sure you stretch and dont work the same muscle 2 days in a row for strength. Sleep alot, cut down the carbs and sugar.
              Hope i helped
              Mary asks…
              Can I workout if I had a tailbone injury? I had the injury about 1.5 years ago.?
              What kind of workout is best? Are there sports/exercises that I should avoid? Can I do weight training or yoga?
              It still hurts if I am too tired, or if I walk a lot, or wear high heels too long.
              My friend hurt the same spot and had an operation. Unfortunately, he can’t participate in much sports. He cannot do mainstream yoga, heavy weight training, stuff that involves the back alot or contact sports like rugby. He does play soccer (football) though.
              Of course you would be different, and i hate for you to not to go to the gym when infact you can, so go and see your doctor.
              Very best option.
